The Event
For over 20 years, this Western US National event (West Coast Giant Scale Fly-In) was held at the old Castle Air Force Base in Atwater California and was coordinated by a combination of clubs but most notably, the Central Cal Model Flyers. Unfortunately, as times changed, the old CAFB motif was changed to Castle Airpark and as of January 2020, the venue for that facility eliminated the potential for any future model aviation use. To that groups credit and with their support the Clovis Area Modelers became the supporting club to bring this great western US model aviation tradition back to life at Reedley Airport. In doing so, the intent was to support the City of Reedley and the Reedley Unified School District in their Aviation Program. Over the past three (3) years that venue was attempted and thanks goto the City if Reedley and also the later support from the ClovisRCHeli group that continued to try and make it work. Unfortunately, there were encroaching incompatibilities that warranted a move away from the Reedley Airport to another location. One option was Crows Landing which sadly was unable to accommodate the scope of a Giant Scale Rally. That said, the Clovis Area Modelers (ClovisRC.COM) offered the option to use their Peg Field for the 2025 event and that’s where we’re at now.
The original focus has not changed as the endeavor is to help foster a continued interest in all facets of aviation from Model Aviation to Full Size Commercial Aircraft. But, those endeavors need a beginning and this is where the format for this 2025 West Coast Giant Scale Rally will Focus – An RC Family Reunion; where, all any AMA pilots with an aircraft meeting the minimum dimensions is invited to attend and fly this Memorial Day Weekend at Peg Field.
And please note, this community aviation focus along with the support of all the RC pilots and Spectators that will attend this event; are indicative of the positive representation and coordination working in concert, that will help in the continuation of the Castle Fly-In Legacy.
Our desire is that as a pilot you bring your giant scale aircraft to the event; please just enjoy the flying and friendship unique to the world of model aviation. The flying will commence with a Pilots Meeting to be held daily at 8:30 am followed by flying at 9:00 am. Night-flying is permitted and encouraged.
Our desire for spectators is that you enjoy the event; the flying, and the technical challenges. We also hope and invite you to become interested in model aviation and if so, to please contact us accordingly for no charge Radio Control training. Learn To Fly
